Full curriculum

17 hours of structured, hands-on training across pre-work, 4 core modules, and a mandatory assessment.

Pre-work: Online Fundamentals

Before your first live session, you will complete foundational AI concepts through Vertical Institute's e-learning portal. This ensures everyone starts the live modules on the same page, ready to build.

Module 1: Running Local Language Models

Learn how to run AI models on your own machine for privacy, speed, and cost control. You will set up Docker, use Open WebUI as your local chat interface, and build a basic Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline that pulls from your own documents.

  • Installing and configuring Docker for local AI
  • Open WebUI setup and model selection
  • RAG fundamentals — connecting your own data to a local LLM
  • When to use local models vs cloud APIs

Module 2: AI Tools, MCP & Workflow Automation

This is where you start building. You will set up n8n (a visual workflow automation tool), connect it to AI models, and create real automated pipelines. You will also learn about the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and how to get structured, reliable output from AI tools.

  • n8n setup and core concepts (nodes, triggers, workflows)
  • Connecting AI models to n8n workflows
  • MCP — giving AI tools access to external data and actions
  • Structured output: getting consistent, parseable responses from AI
  • Building your first end-to-end automation

Module 3: AI Agents & Patterns

Move beyond single-step automations into multi-step AI agents. You will learn the core patterns behind agentic AI: prompt chaining, routing, tool use, and how to build research agents that can gather, synthesise, and report on information autonomously.

  • Prompt chaining — breaking tasks into sequential AI steps
  • Routing — letting agents decide which path to take
  • Tool use — giving agents access to APIs, databases, and web search
  • Building a research agent from scratch
  • Testing and debugging agent behaviour

Module 4: Autonomous Agents

The final module covers autonomous agents that plan, execute, and self-correct with minimal human oversight. You will work with OpenClaw and Claude Code, and learn the security and ethical considerations that come with deploying agents in production.

  • Autonomous agent architectures — planning, acting, reflecting
  • OpenClaw and Claude Code as agentic development tools
  • Safety guardrails — preventing runaway agents
  • Security considerations for AI agents in business
  • Ethics of autonomous AI systems
Assessment: Written & Practical (Mandatory)

To earn your Certificate of Attainment, you must pass both a written component and a practical exercise. The assessment tests your ability to build a working AI automation and explain the reasoning behind your design choices.

Tools you will use

You will get hands-on experience with five AI platforms across the course, plus supporting tools for local deployment and workflow automation.

ChatGPT OpenAI
Gemini Google
Copilot Microsoft
Claude Anthropic
n8n Workflow automation

Plus: Docker, Open WebUI, OpenClaw, and Claude Code for local AI and agent development.

This course is designed for professionals who already use AI tools and want to move from prompting to building. No coding background required.

  • Professionals who use ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude at work and want to automate multi-step business processes
  • Team leads and project managers looking to build AI-powered workflows that save their team hours of manual work
  • Founders and small business owners who want to integrate AI agents into their operations without hiring a developer
  • Mid-career switchers targeting roles in AI automation, AI consulting, or AI-enabled operations
  • Level 1 graduates ready for the next step — from using AI tools to building with them
  • Anyone curious about agentic AI, local language models, and n8n workflow automation
Prerequisites

You must be aged 21 or above with basic computer literacy. Prior exposure to AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) is recommended but not mandatory. Level 1 is not a strict prerequisite — if you are comfortable prompting AI tools, you can start here.

What graduates are doing with these skills

Lim Yi Ping used what she learned to build live AI automation demos during job interviews. She demonstrated real workflows — not just talked about AI theory. The result: 3 job offers from 4 companies she interviewed with.

Frequently asked questions

AI workflow automation means connecting AI tools to your existing business processes so they run with minimal manual input. Instead of copy-pasting between apps, you build automated pipelines — for example, an AI agent that reads incoming emails, extracts key data, updates a spreadsheet, and drafts a reply. This course teaches you to build these systems using n8n and AI models.

Not strictly. Level 1 (Generative AI Course) is not a prerequisite. However, this course assumes you are already comfortable using AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude. If you have never used an AI chatbot before, Level 1 will give you the foundation you need. If you already prompt AI tools daily at work, you can go straight to Level 2.

Agentic AI refers to AI systems that can plan, make decisions, use tools, and take actions with minimal human oversight. Unlike a simple chatbot that responds to one prompt at a time, an AI agent can break a task into steps, call external tools, evaluate results, and adjust its approach. This course covers agent patterns, prompt chaining, routing, and autonomous agents — the skills employers are hiring for in 2026.

The base fee is $1,300 before GST ($1,417 including 9% GST), plus a $10.90 registration fee. After SSG subsidies, Singapore Citizens aged 40 and above pay $507 nett. Citizens under 40 and Permanent Residents pay $767 nett. You can stack SkillsFuture Credit on top to bring your out-of-pocket cost lower — potentially to $0.

Yes. This course is SkillsFuture Credit eligible (Course ID: TGS-2026062445, valid 19 March 2026 to 18 March 2028). Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their credit balance to offset fees after SSG subsidies. If you are 40 or older, you may have up to $4,500 in SkillsFuture Credit — more than enough to cover the remaining $507.

n8n is an open-source workflow automation tool with a visual drag-and-drop interface. You connect nodes (like "read email", "call AI model", "update spreadsheet") to build automated pipelines without writing code. It is similar to Zapier or Make, but more flexible and self-hostable. No coding experience is required — the course walks you through setup and building workflows step by step.

Graduates are well-positioned for roles like AI automation specialist, AI solutions consultant, workflow automation engineer, and AI-enabled operations manager. Even if you stay in your current role, the ability to build AI agents and automate processes is increasingly valued across marketing, operations, finance, and HR.

Graduates receive a Certificate of Attainment, lifetime access to learning resources, and career support from Vertical Institute.

Yes. You can attend online (live virtual) or in-person at Vertical Institute's training centre. Weekday evening and weekend schedules are available. The curriculum and certification are the same regardless of format. Check the Vertical Institute website for the latest dates and timeslots.
